A new song by the late Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala has gone viral, leaving fans emotional. Titled, Vaar, Sidhu’s latest number has left fans reeling, grieving the slain singer.
Renowned Indian singer and politician Sidhu Moose Wala, who had joined the Congress ahead of the Punjab elections, was shot dead by goons in May this year in an attack near his native village Jawaharke in Punjab’s Mansa distric, reported the Times of India.
The incident happened within 24 hours of the Punjab government withdrawing his security. More than 30 rounds were fired at the vehicle they were traveling in. Police said Sidhu appeared to have suffered more than eight bullet wounds and was rushed to Mansa Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Wire reported that Sidhu Moose Wala’s fan following was in the “millions”, spanning countries such as the US, UK, Canada and Australia. “He was known for his rap songs with hard-hitting, satirical content that questioned society, politicians, religious leaders, rival singers and discussed the country’s issues,” the report added.
Indian politicians condemned the news and expressed condolences over the tragedy. “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the brutal killing of Sidhu Moose Wala. No one involved will be spared,” Indian Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said.
DGP VK Bhawra said in a press briefing on Sunday evening that Canada-based Goldy Brar and jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi are allegedly involved in the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala.
“Sidhu Moose Wala was killed in Punjab today, I, Sachin Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi take responsibility. This is our job. Gurlal Brar said in a statement that Moose Wala’s name came up in the murders of our brother Vikramjit Singh Middukhera and Gurlal Brar, but the Punjab Police did not take any action against him.
“We also came to know that Moose Wala was also involved in our associate Ankit Bhadu’s encounter. Moose Wala was working against us. He was named by the Delhi Police but Moose Wala used his political power and every time Saved his skin,” Goldy wrote on his social media post, reported IANS.
