The coming-of-age film ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ starring Aamir Khan, Ayesha Jhulka, Deepak Tijori, and Pooja Bedi was released almost 30 years ago. The film was called a blockbuster and became a cult over the years. But did you know that Akshay Kumar was going to play a role in this movie? Scroll down to find out what happened.
Directed by Mansoor Khan, it was one of the few Hindi films to combine the concepts of love, friendship, enmity, sport and class division. A film that is still fresh in our minds years later. However, rumors suggested that Kumar had auditioned for the role of Shekhar Malhotra.
Akshay Kumar, unfortunately, could not get the role and was rejected during the audition. Talking to Midday about it, the superstar said, “Apna screen test diya maine, for Deepak Tijori’s role. And they didn’t like it. And, apparently, I was crap, so they removed me.”
At that time, Akshay Kumar was new to the industry. He made his debut in 1991 with the film Saugandh in which he played the lead role. After the audition, the role was re-acquired by Milind Soman. He even shot 75% of the film but it was later canceled, and the shooting was stopped for a while. Finally, Deepak Tijori was added to play the role of Shekhar Malhotra.
Recently, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’s director Mansoor Khan made it clear that he did not call Akshay Kumar crap. During the screen test, the filmmaker made the actor feel very sticky, even though his physique was excellent. He even expressed his displeasure over Kumar’s comment on the rejection.
For the uninitiated, the filmmaker is famous for films likeQayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Akele Hum Akele Tum and Josh.
